Headed to Montana on Jan 4th to assist a rancher friend with a coyote problem. Along with me will be my AR with a redfield scope and Liberty .223 HBAR barrel, but the main toy is the newly *almost* finished 6.5 Creedmoor Savage with a (for now) unchristened cut rifled barrel. Never hunted Coyotes on this particular ranch but I've killed many prairie dogs there so I know the shots will be mid to long range (500+ yards.) Pretty open country so I'll need good camo. Have a few ghillie suits that I've built that need touch up.

Does anyone live near Broadus Montana or in south eastern Montana. Be nice to know if there's snow on the ground. Camo is easier to modify here than in the field.

I haven't been through S.E. MT this year but traveled through many times & there has always been snow. Idaho & Wyoming have gotten dumped on in the last couple weeks. My best guess is that there will be plenty of snow.
Use the camo you like but you really don't have to go too elaborate for it to be effective
If it works deer hunting it will work for Coyotes

i live in Helena, and the current temp is 13 degrees, with a 5 mph wind, for a wind chill of 3.  it is very difficult to predict, long term, what the weather will be like.  however, eastern mt is usually colder and windier than the west.  I just checked the mt dot road report map, and the roads around broadus are all snow-packed and icy.  that site also has links to the various road cameras, that will give you an idea of what is currently on the ground, and the weather conditions.  there are also various websites that will give you historical info on given locations.

if i'm going out, and I know I won't be walking much, I wear my 2000 gm thinsulate boots with silk liners and a good pair of wool socks.  out there, I would also wear clothes that are good windbreakers.  I like wool mittens with a fleece liner, and wear glove liners under them.  a cap on the head with a wool, fleece lined, full faced mask to go over it.  lots of hankies!!!!

bring lots of ammo for the 6.5, as you won't like what the wind does to the 5.56 bullets.
