I've seen some very fast helical  flutes on barrels lately.  Someone just posted one on arfcom that looks like a coil bolt used in construction. I assume who ever is doing it doesn't know they might as well make the barrels the diameter of the minor because they would be just as stiff. A slow helical flute does not hurt the barrels much.  Of course if it didn't have flutes it wouldn't be tacticool.[rolleyes]

Reminds me of the dimple flutting I've seen by some companies. I think that type of pattern looks like a golf ball stick.
