Finally dusted off the chrony, and shot 60 rounds of 123 ELD Black ammo, through my 24" BHW barrel. I had an average of only 2499fps, an ES of 74, from 2457 - 2531, and a SD of 16. That is almost 80fps slower than an advertised 2580fps.

My 10 handloads of 123 SST's over 31gr of CFE223 were an average of 2603, with an ES of 24 from 2594 - 2618, and an SD of 8, which seems to be about right with a 24" and 31gr of CFE223 with 123's.

Conditions were 60*F and 2800ft elevation, not that the altitude matters.

Well, that's disappointing. I bought 2 boxes of Hornady Black just to see what it does. Might be some time till I get the chrony out but I'll let you know what it does out of my 22" Satern group buy barrel.

Info is always good. That was 68 of 70 rounds so that is good data. 2 rounds measured 1150, pretty sure that was me getting off center though, I threw those 2 velocities out. I bought them for the brass mainly, brass was 3/4 the price of ammo!

Hornady derives the velocity specs on their ammo boxes based on bolt action rifles.
