Ok a butt whoopin to 300 yards, a foot race to 500, and G takes the prize home past that.

300 yards and in I want a 30 cal on target at same stated energy of a .264.

I agree in the most likely engagement zone the 30AR has the edge but then again they'll both drop deer in that zone. I would prefer the 150gr's for better BC and more sectional density. Then if i was using a 16in though the 125gr makes perfect sense.

The 168gr Berger Classic Hunters that I covered previously in this thread chrono'd out at 2390 FPS.

200 yards and in that will bring down the house.....

That bullet sure seems to be a good match for the 30 RAR.  Is that close to max speed do you think?

If you are talking about the 125gr SST, then yes I agree it is probably the optimal hunting bullet for the 30 RAR hunter.

Speed wise I would think you would get more in a longer barrel, I am playing with the 16 inch carbine length as I like its compactness.

I believe the jump to the lands is too much for the Berger Classic Hunters at near factory COAL, your mileage may vary...

By the way, that load above may work much better in your McGowan barrel.

Yep its not what leaves the muzzle fasted its what stays the longest. 150gr Nos BT is one of the best options.
