I was a bit taken aback at how thin the profile of the Smith .308 AR is...and now I'm thinking my concerns were warranted!

Wonder if its that particular barrel type? I saw those 20" DPMS barrels you pointed out at CDNN and wonder if its an issue with a small barrel or just S&W's.

Pencil barrels in any rifle are more prone to damage so it seems like the intended use needs to be factored in. It just seemed like the profile on the Smiths was lightened too much when I first looked at them. Just my impression. Well, sure enough we have guys bending them while running around having fun and other reports of issues as manufactured.

Probably not a bad rifle, but given the dearth of parts out there to fit them (vs. the now somewhat standard DPMS spec) I'll be passing on them.
