We all know that hog hunting in the south with ARs is common but how common is deer hunting with ARs in your neck of the woods? Post up pics of you using an AR to hunt medium game.

This is my deer last year. hey it was the last day of the hunt and momma wanted venison.

Here are several pics of Mo Whitetail taken with MSR’s. The chamberings range from the 5.56 up through the 7mm-08. There are a dozen or more that I don’t have photos of. Here in Mo you can fill as May antlerless tags as your wallet can stand, you just may have to hunt in several counties.

I don't have a pic , it was a nice little 6 or 7 point , weighed around 140 - 150 lbs. Shot him with a 120 gr Sierra Prohunter running around 2500 fps at a tad over 100 yds. Bullet entered base of neck quartering towards me, so between base of neck and shoulder. Bullet traversed diagonally from right entry and exited just in front of the hind quarter on the left side. Deer didn't fall right there but only went about 40 yards. I started using the 6.5 Gr after my oldest daughter had taken a lot of deer with the same bullet at around the same velocity from her 260 Rem. I happened to stumble upon the 6.5 Gr in a Shooting Times magazine and was interested from the start. I have never liked AR's since my time at Ft. Sill and in the NG, thought there were better rifles to be had . So building an AR was in my future, I chose a Satern barrel 24" long , a PSA blem upper and lower, did the trigger work my self down to 2 3/4 lbs, worked up a very nice handload with the bullet mentioned and have never looked back. That 260 load that my oldest daughter used worked good , the 6.5 Gr load that I have worked up for my youngest daughter works just as well. Face it , the bullet doesn't know what cartridge booted it out the end of the barrel . It just works .

Everyone in my family hunts with a AR. My wife and I hunt with a 6.8 and my oldest daughter just moved up to a 6.8 from a 223. My youngest still likes her 223 AR. This is a pic of my daughters second deer this year with the 6.8 with 115 Fusion ammo.
