I've seen a few threads where people ask what's the best caliber for a given use. My standard for the best medium game cartridge in an MSR would be the greatest 6inch MPBR while maintaining a sufficient hornady hits score. Is the grendel king with a 258ish MPBR?

601 HITS per Hornady load data @ 400 (24" barrel). Just a note to OP - AR sight height runs closer to 2.5" than the 1.5" that the MPBR calculator defaults to. With 2.5", your MPBR goes to 270.

270AR using 120gr or 130gr bullets and a shorter barrel will do better with these two criteria than the Grendel.

Thats what the Grendel is 601 assuming a 2580fps velocity with a 123gr SST.

Seems Both the 7mm VAR and the 270AR outperform the Grendel by these criteria. I wonder if someone else has squeezed even more out of 2.2 inches?

They do but limited by mag capacity of 7 rounds vs 28 rounds for the Grendel. I have a 7mm VAR as well as a grendel.
