I've been playing around with several AR10 cats based on the 284 or 6.5-284 case for almost a year now. Of course the 6.5-284 is SAAMI. A 6mm would be too much of a barrel smoker IMO. The original 284 is also SAAMI. That makes 2 with existing brass and dies...easy for AR10 builds. The next 2 are the 30 and 338. Necking up is a simple thing and 6.5-284 bushing dies are found easy. The brass is .500 diameter but the rim is .473...standard 308 sized. Should make for some high performance AR10s.

How would your 30 cal compare to a 308?

After testing all of the different calibers in 6.8 and BRX size cats against the 243, 260 and 308 in the last few months I know there is no benefit to go to a cartridge of 50gr or more when using a barrel 16-20" long especially in calibers smaller than 30. When barrel lengths are 20" or less I can get within 50fps of full size cartridges using the BRX.
As a result I have dropped all plans to make any cats based on the 284 or wssm case.
